Aboriginal Education Worker

About the role

A great opportunity exists for an Aboriginal Education Worker to join the team at Christian Brothers’ High School Lewisham. The Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander program is focused on providing educational and pastoral care support to Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander students based on the ‘Closing the Gap’ targets of Attendance, Numeracy/ Literacy, Parent and Community Engagement and Retention.


Your key role is to provide culturally safe support for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander students based on a relationship of trust and respect. We will be asking you to draw on your cultural strengths to provide a safe place for all students to experience success, express their needs, concerns and goals as they progress through their education.

About you

  • To perform this role it is essential that the person who holds the position be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under Section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 that applicants are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.

  • Previous experience working with Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander youth

  • Knowledge and understanding  of issues facing Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander youth in an urban context

  • Able to deal with sensitive and complex issues in a culturally appropriate way

  • Demonstrated skills in cross-cultural communication specifically active listening

  • Able to work within the framework of a Catholic school

  • Current Working with Children Check

PDHPE Teacher - Casual

All Teacher roles are required to have:-

  • Qualifications and experience teaching across relevant stages

  • Current knowledge of NESA curriculum, HSC assessment and marking processes

  • Current NESA Accreditation

  • Current NSW Working with Children Check

All teaching applicants will need to address the following additional selection criteria:-

  • Commitment to the ethos and values of the School 

  • Demonstrated evidence of excellence as a teacher

  • Demonstrated interest in boys' education

  • Demonstrated collaboration and team work with other professionals
