Return to Campus
In light of the Premier’s announcement today the CBHS Lewisham leadership team has reviewed our return to campus plan and will be expediting the return of all students to campus. We have decided to keep a somewhat staggered approach. This is so we can assess how the students are coping with the return to campus as we have noticed it’s a little tougher on some of the boys than we all would have predicted.
With Years 5, 6, and 12 already having returned to campus we will now bring back the remaining year groups as follows
Monday 25th May (Week 5) Year 7 & 11 return to campus
Monday 1st June (Week 6) Year 8, 9 & 10 return to campus
When boys return to campus they will be required to follow the Uniform Policy, no exceptions, this includes full Winter Uniform, with jackets and sports uniform on Thursday. They will need to be clean-shaven with hair that is clean, combed and in a style that does not draw attention to the individual.
We will be proceeding with our mid-term break leading into the Queen’s Birthday long weekend as we will use the time to evaluate our staggered return from both a physical and pastoral perspective
Thursday 4th June Mid Term Break
Friday 5th June Mid Term Break
Monday 8th June Queen’s Birthday Public Holiday
Tuesday 9th June All students on campus as per standard timetable
All extracurricular activities, excursion, incursion, immersions, assemblies, clubs, tutoring and after school study groups remain cancelled for Term 2
Please be assured that student and staff wellbeing is top of mind in every decision we make. We have had no cases of COVID-19, the School has been thoroughly cleaned and sanitised since the boys left at the end of last term and we continue to encourage all staff and students to
Wash hands often and well, especially before eating and after using the bathroom
Cover coughs and sneezes with your elbow or a tissue
Discard used tissues
Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
Do not share food or drink
Stay home if you are feeling unwell
Our decision to bring the boys back is based on the current Government and Medical Authorities advice, if this advice changes we will adjust our plans and advise families.
The school has increased its cleaning services and will focus on wiping down high touch and shared areas such as door handles and desks and hand sanitiser is available in a number of shared locations.
Assemblies have been cancelled for the remainder of Term 2 and any gathering of your sons’ year group will be done in one of the halls where the seating meets social distancing requirements.
Signage has been placed around the school asking the boys to travel between classes in certain ways, this helps to reduce large numbers of students in small areas as much as possible.
Classrooms where feasible have had their seating arranged in an examination style layout to give as much room between boys as possible.
The School has considered temperature checking and the general wearing of masks/gloves and has taken Federal and NSW Health advice that this is not recommended. However, if your son is unwell, showing any cold or flu symptoms please keep him home and advise Student Services via the usual method.
If your son becomes unwell at school, we ask that you pick him up ASAP from reception and when he is ready to return to school does so with a medical clearance in the form of a medical certificate or negative COVID-19 test.
We ask that if you pick up and drop off your son by car that you are conscious of our neighbours, many of who are now working from home, and not block driveways or park for extended periods of time with your car idling.
What if I choose to keep my son home?
Teachers will be focusing on in-person teaching, not offering a ‘dual platform’ classroom. If your son is not attending school, in person, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
What if I can’t keep my son home until his year group comes back?
Just email email@example.com to allow for us to plan for supervision.
What if my son is unwell?
If your son is feeling unwell or showing any cold or flu symptoms please act on the cautious side, keep him at home and email firstname.lastname@example.org to advise he will be absent.
Are the buses running?
Buses will be running as per the normal timetable and will pick up after Period 4 on a Thursday.
Is the Canteen open?
Canteen facilities are open, however as boys can leave early on Thursday there is no lunch on this day.
Is the Uniform Shop open?
Yes, the Uniform Shop is now open as per usual. We ask you order ahead and adhere to social distancing guidelines. Details are on the School website https://www.cbhslewisham.nsw.edu.au/uniform-shop
The School Leadership Team continues to review the latest advice and amend our plans as necessary to ensure the safest possible environment for our students and staff.
