Sport is an integral part of the boys’ formation and development at CBHS Lewisham. Through sport, the boys are given the opportunity to build team spirit as well as school spirit, sportsmanship, teamwork and friendships. It can be beneficial in developing the self-esteem, confidence and skills of the boys.
Sport at CBHS Lewisham is inclusive; all boys have the opportunity throughout the year to represent the school at various sports and at various levels: These include:
All boys will participate in the annual CBHS Primary Swimming Carnival, CBHS Primary Athletics Carnival and the CBHS Cross Country Carnival. All the boys are involved in Thursday sport which includes the teaching of skills and participation in the House Competition.
The Primary School is not involved in any weekly competition against other schools, but through our wide involvement with different sporting organisations CBHS competes against a great many different schools, including public, Catholic, other independent and GPS schools.
Sydney Catholic Schools
CBHS is a member of the Sydney Archdiocesan Sports Council through which the boys are eligible to represent the St George cluster of schools, Sydney Catholic Schools, MacKillop and, if selected, the state, in a number of sports.
Being a member of this association also enables us to compete in Cluster Swimming, Athletics and Cross Country Carnivals, as well as Touch and Soccer Gala Days.
The school is part of the St George Dragons area in Rugby League development. CBHS Lewisham participates in a number of Gala Days run by the ARL, these include: Rugby League Sevens; All Schools’ Rugby League; Dragons Tag Day; and the Independent Schools’ Competition.
The school is also involved in the Mark Taylor Cricket competition as well as the Milo Cup run by Cricket NSW. Teams are also entered into the Paul Kelly Cup for Year 5 and 6 AFL, run by the Sydney Swans.
CBHS Lewisham is a member of the Brothers’ Association which includes Waverley College,
St Patrick’s, Strathfield, St Pius X Chatswood and St Ignatius, Riverview. Each year we compete against these schools in two carnivals: athletics and swimming.
The school participates in the NSW Chess Competition during Terms 2 and 3.
All boys are encouraged to represent the school in a number of gala days regardless of their skill levels or experience
