School Counsellor

We are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced School Counsellor to join our Pastoral care team for the 2025 school year. In this role, you will work closely with students to ensure their emotional, social and wellbeing needs are being met. You will provide support to teaching staff as well as families on how to best support these students.
In this role, you will:
- Provide support and professional advice to students in the areas of wellbeing and mental health.
- Support teachers and families in understanding student mental health concerns and provide strategies to support their learning and wellbeing.
- Conduct intake assessments, risk assessments and triage based on need and urgency.
- Provide referrals to students and their families and collaborate with external stakeholders to support students in a case management approach.
- Maintain accurate and up to date client notes and written communications.
About you:
- You have recognised qualifications in Counselling, Psychology or Social Work and hold full registration with a relevant professional body (e.g. AHPRA, AASW).
- Demonstrated experience working with children, adolescents and their families to address various mental health, developmental and learning concerns.
- Ability to implement evidence based therapeutic techniques and develop intervention plans including safety plans, attendance plans and student support plans.
- You possess a high level of interpersonal and communication skills and are able to liaise with a range of stakeholders including School Leadership, Pastoral Care team, Diverse Learning, Aboriginal Program and teaching staff to ensure holistic support for students.
- Ability to engage with regular professional and team supervision.
- You possess excellent organisation & time management skills.
- You’re interested in helping meet the educational and wellbeing needs of young men.
- You have an understanding of appropriate behaviours and professional boundaries that reflect child safeguarding values in practice.
- You are willing to support the Catholic ethos of the School.
Desirable Criteria:
- Knowledge and experience working in an educational setting.
