Term 1 Sporting Success!
Term 1 Sport at CBHS Lewisham has been highlighted by outstanding achievement, resilience, and strong school spirit across Basketball, Touch Football, and Swimming.
The SCS Grand Finals for Basketball and Touch Football provided a thrilling conclusion to the season, with all four matches showcasing determination and Lewisham pride. A standout moment was the Senior Touch Football team, who broke a long-standing drought to claim the premiership—an achievement that reflects their perseverance and commitment throughout the season. Similarly, the Intermediate B Basketball team celebrated a well-earned championship victory, also ending a drought and marking a significant milestone for the program.
Other teams displayed commendable efforts in their respective Grand Finals. The Intermediate A Basketball team pushed their opponents to the limit, narrowly losing in a hard-fought overtime battle, while the Senior B Basketball team, despite their best efforts, were unable to secure the win on the day. Across all teams, the commitment, sportsmanship, and determination shown by our students were exemplary and a credit to the school.
In the pool, CBHS Lewisham was proudly represented by 13 students at the SCS Swimming Championships held on 23 March. The team delivered an exceptional performance, achieving an impressive medal tally and demonstrating both individual excellence and team success. Many swimmers recorded personal bests and placed highly in their events, highlighting the strength of the program.
A number of athletes produced truly remarkable performances. Matthew Macdonald dominated the competition, winning nine gold medals and breaking four records in an extraordinary display. Harlem An also excelled, claiming four gold medals and setting two new records, while providing strong leadership within the team. Liam An impressed with four gold medals in the Under 12 division, underlining his promising future in the sport.
Relay teams were another highlight of the evening. The 12–14 relay team of Liam An, San Kang, Matthew Macdonald, and Brent Schultz achieved first place in both of their events, completing an outstanding clean sweep. The All Age relay team—featuring Liam An, San Kang, Matthew Macdonald, Lucas Dias, Harlem An, and Maxwell Cuthill—also secured first place in the final event of the night, capping off a successful carnival.
Several swimmers have progressed to the NSWCCC Swimming Championships, including Harlem An, Bada Kang, Matthew Macdonald, Brent Schultz, and Liam An, along with both relay teams. This is a significant achievement and a testament to their hard work and dedication.
Beyond results, what stood out most was the conduct and attitude of all students involved. Whether on the court, field, or in the pool, CBHS athletes demonstrated respect, teamwork, and pride in representing their school.
Overall, Term 1 sport has been a tremendous success, with achievements worth celebrating and a strong foundation set for the remainder of the year.
