STEM Club races at the 2025 UNSW Solar Car Challenge

On Saturday the CBHS STEM Club proudly showcased their innovation and teamwork at the 2025 UNSW Solar Car Challenge. Students from Years 7 & 8 competed against over 160 schools in both the 20m Drag Race and the Pursuit Race events, demonstrating months of hard work, creativity, and collaboration.

After designing, building, and refining their solar-powered cars throughout Terms 2 and 3, the STEM Club finally had the chance to race their cars against those from other schools. Their efforts paid off with impressive results: 7th place in the Drag Race and 5th place in the Pursuit Race – a fantastic achievement in a highly competitive challenge.

Beyond the races, students explored a range of interactive renewable energy exhibits, including electric vehicles and an activity where they pedalled bicycles to generate electricity to turn on lights. These experiences deepened their understanding of sustainable technologies and resulted in even more enthusiasm for STEM learning.

The event was a celebration of innovation, teamwork, and real-world problem-solving. It was inspiring to see our students connect with peers from other schools, exchange ideas, and reflect on how far they have come since the start of the year.

A huge thank you to our STEM Club members for representing CBHS Lewisham with such energy and pride, to the families who came to support, and to Mr Antony Sachs whose guidance in the early stages of design and testing was instrumental to the team’s success. We look forward to returning next year with new ideas, refined designs, and even greater determination.

Well done boys – you’ve made Lewisham proud!
