Bursaries and Scholarships
As part of our commitment to the CBHS core values of Liberating Education, Gospel Spirituality, Inclusive Community, and Justice and Solidarity, the school offers a range of bursaries and scholarships to help families in our community.
Waterford Bursary
Supporting families of lower income to help create academic success and future career opportunities for more members of our community. The Waterford Bursary has been made possible, in part, by the fundraising efforts of our P&F Association.
Edmund Rice, born in 1762 in Ireland, was well-educated and built a successful business in the town of Waterford. Despite his wealth, he was troubled by the poor treatment of less fortunate Irish Catholics. Selling his business, he founded the Christian Brothers and opened a night school for impoverished children. By 1825, he and 30 Christian Brothers were educating over 5,000 students across 12 towns and cities. Today, around 1,700 Christian Brothers continue his mission in 28 countries worldwide.
The Waterford Bursary is open to members of the community who would like their son to attend Christian Brothers Lewisham, and hold a Low Income Health Care or Pensioner Concession Card.

Edmund Rice Bursary
The Edmund Rice Bursary supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families in our community.
Since 2010, the Edmund Rice Bursary has been an integral part of our Reconciliation Action Plan which is built on the three pillars of Relationships, Respect, and Opportunities. This bursary aims to provide local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families with financial assistance towards the cost of education to support academic success and future career opportunities.
In addition to the Edmund Rice Bursary, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families are supported through the CBHS Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Program. Led by proud Kunjen and Yorta Yorta man and CBHS Old Boy Mr Blake Griffith, the program allows students to connect to Country and Culture, fostering strong connections and deepening cultural understanding within the broader community.
