Waterford Bursary

Edmund Rice was born in 1762 in Ireland where he received a good education and created a successful business in the city of Waterford. The success of his business made him a wealthy man, but he was increasingly disturbed by the treatment of those less fortunate, many of whom were Irish Catholics. In his later years, he sold his business, founded the Christian Brothers, and began a night school for impoverished children of Waterford. By 1825, Edmund Rice and his team of thirty Christian Brothers were educating over 5,000 students in 12 different towns and cities who otherwise may not have received an education. Today around 1,700 Christian Brothers are educators and carers in twenty-eight countries around the world.

The Waterford Bursary provides a discount on annual tuition and is open to members of the community who hold a Low Income Health Care Card and wish for their son to apply to CBHS Lewisham. We hope that this bursary will help us to support academic success and future career opportunities for more members of our community. The Waterford Bursary has been made possible, in part, by the fundraising efforts of our P&F Association.
